"Coconut Laddu"It is one of my favourite food on the go or in-between meals snacks. I call it “Laddu” as in Hindi any sweetmeat which is spherical and sweet is termed “Laddu”. I had posted the pictures of coconut laddus sometime back on my Facebook page, and I got a lot of request from my followers for the recipe. It is extremely easy to prepare (it just took me 20 minutes) and costs very little. Yet, it is ‘power packed’ with nutrients. Of course, I have not added the price of my expertise to the cost (which would make it VERY expensive!).

Health and nutritional benefits of coconut laddus,

It will hopefully be of interest just how many health benefits the ingredients used in coconut luddus have, so below is a breakdown of benefits of each ingredient.

Coconut is highly nutritious and rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a “functional food” because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content.

Health benefits of coconuts and coconut oil include:

• Helps with weight loss or to maintain a healthy weight,

• Reduces the risk of heart disease,

• Lowers cholesterol,

• Improves the health of those that suffer with diabetes and chronic fatigue conditions,

• Improves the health of those that suffer with Crohn’s, IBS and other digestive disorders,

• Powerful antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agents protect against other diseases and common illnesses,

• Increases metabolism and promotes health thyroid function,

Jaggery- It is brown in colour. The benefits of jaggery include its ability to cleanse your body, act as a digestive agent, provide good amounts of minerals and can sweeten food in a healthy manner. One of the main benefits of jiggery is that it is a more complex form of carbohydrate than plain sugar, so is digested, absorbed and releases energy gradually. Jaggery can therefore provide warmth and energy for longer periods than simpler carbohydrates, without stressing the internal organs.

Gelatine- Hydrolyzed Collagen is a unique combination of amino acids at concentrated amounts, which promotes rapid re-production of blood cells for healing and conditioning of other proteins especially those involved in bone and joint care. This low molecular weight protein is easily digested for healthy enrichment of proteins in minutes after ingestion. It will not congeal because it has been hydrolyzed allowing quick assimilation and improved hydration to the connective tissue. Collagen is important for nitrogen balance, considered an anti-aging product as it supports repair of age related cartilage damage and collagen loss.

Raw Organic Cocoa powder- Cocoa is the highest whole food source of magnesium, which also happens to be the most deficient mineral in the diet of modern cultures. Magnesium relaxes muscles, improves peristalsis in the bowels and relaxes the heart and cardiovascular system. The dark chocolate contains antioxidants that have been clinically proven to literally dissolve plaque built up in the arteries which helps in reversing heart disease and causes naturally lower blood pressure. Raw cocoa contains various other vitamins and minerals that also benefit the cardiovascular system.
